Following the move of its headquarters in November 2017, Creaform wanted to integrate a demonstration cell that would show all functions of the MetraSCAN 3D-R scanner, without neglecting compliance with applicable safety standards. Considering its participation into the development of a similar project for the marketing department the previous year, the installation and commission of this project was given to Creaform Engineering.
The demonstration cell includes a Fanuc M10iA robot and an external rotary axis that allows the rotation of the parts to be digitized. When there is a pneumatic tool changer added, the robot can handle a longer calibration bar. This tool changer also has a sensor, which validates the presence of the calibration bar and therefore modify parameters of this DCS for the tool change.
For this project, Creaform Engineering conducted a risk analysis in order to set guidelines regarding the equipment safety. The next steps were related to the electrical design of the system (on Autocad Electrical), the robot programmation, then followed by cable protection. In addition, programming of the DCS was made on Roboguide software, a software that allows us to define physical limits in order to avoid collision between the robot and its environment. Since the installation and commissioning is now completed, Creaform Engineering ensures that the cell is working properly and, if necessary, provides support to all bugs.
